Sonya shared your post with me. I as many many others resonate with your beautifully crafted words. It's always "both and" isn't it? I wish you well.

Shawna, our lives couldn't be more different in almost every way except for the fact that we started our journeys around the same time period. You: a female mother, married, from the Pacific Northwest (I love it up there!); Me: single, childless, male, a Southwestern Desert Rat. But that's what makes it even more interesting when I feel like we are on similar paths, with similar road markers that appear at similar times, despite all of our differences.

What really spoke to me about this post, is the transition from "running on fumes" to tapping into a much deeper source of energy, partially due to necessity. I can definitely understand that, I used to exactly the same: motivated by the next deadline, with the promise of a future goal, and I was able to tap into a "sugar rush" of energy to get the job done. Now things are very different: deadlines and external future rewards do not motivate me in the same way, I still have that "sugar rush" of energy reserves but they're much smaller, and doing things for their own sake is much more important to me these days.

Loved the post, loved the pictures, and it sounds like a great little "getaway" with your husband. I once took a road trip to the Pacific Northwest in college and it was a tiny glimpse into the beauty of that area. Loved it!!

Joaquin, I just came here to read this comment again. I love that our lives have overlapped in so many ways despite being so different on paper. I hope your transition from running on fumes is going well, and that we both find a deeper well of consistent energy to help us finish our novels!
